How might we...

  • Governing Power: How might we shift governing power more towards justice?
  • How might we attract a new set of leaders to become base-builders initially focused on the right to vote for formerly incarcerated people?
  • How might we build a left pole of 11-12 State Senators & 27 House of Delegates that shift the balance of decision-making power in the hands of a new majority in Virginia?
  • How might we develop leaders who will autonomously work across key regions and in the numbers necessary to organize chapter meetings in their districts...
  • How might we immediately test a core member's ability to lead?
  • How might we significantly increase our membership base around criminal justice and democracy issues?
  • How might we test for potential roles of leaders in RTV; clubs challenge old assumptions; and try new potential roles?

Hypothesis

Learning now about core members’ leadership skills to co-design and lead a meeting will inform RTV roles and possibly uncover new role components.

Design

Thomas will ask Christopher, our lead organizer to work with core team member to co-design and lead the 3/25 Core Meeting, this includes reminder calls, agenda, people doing their homework, etc.

Metrics

  • Team people showed up
  • Follow up on homework assignment (reflections, questions, suggestions on ‘structures’ of right to vote clubs, ready to share
  • Reminder email/calls happen
  • Learning or reaffirming steps you’re holding as basic to this task
  • What was the time it took to prepare and collaborate?
    • Providing list, script.  etc.
  • Where was the most needed support?
  • Thomas – Will feel affirmed if it happens. Feeling Joyous.
  • Jon- Would feel taller!

Learnings

Requires us to be flexible and meet people where they are at given circumstances (COVID-19).

Always have an action plan! Jon, Thomas and Christopher were planning meeting with Core Leaders as part of regular DNA meeting, reflection there was that this is ongoing work. 

Work over the next days, weeks and months to be able to test out roles. 

We’re moving to even more distributed leadership.

Decisions

People agreed to take on more tasks in coming month, 6 weeks. Want to get to MVP and then we’ll get it out there and test drive.
